The District Governor, a representative of LCI, provides leadership, working with a cabinet who spearhead various tasks and projects.
For administrative purposes, the District is broken into three Regions, which are subdivided into zones made up of several geographically close Lions Clubs.
Lions began in 1917 when Melvin Jones started networking local business clubs for community improvement. The first convention was in Dallas, Texas, with 22 clubs in 9 states represented.
The Lions Code of Ethics and Lions Objects encourage Lions to put service ahead of profit and to uphold high standards of conduct.
In 1925, at the convention, Helen Keller urged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness", thus beginning a legacy of sight-related programs.
