Trip Rules
These trips are scheduled for CHOTA MEMBERS. To join the club, please print the membership form
and send it to the given address along with the annual fee.
You may also give it to the trip leader on the day of the trip.

Please contact the trip leader by the THURSDAY before the scheduled trip.
Trips listed as a weekend do NOT necessarily mean there is a trip both days, the trip leader will choose which day.
The trip leader may cancel the trip if there are less than three participants.

Club Equipment
Club boats and gear is available to Chota members at no charge.
However, equipment that is not returned by the TUESDAY following the trip will be subjected to a $20 late fee.
This is to ensure that all club members have fair access to the gear.

Day Trips
PADDLE to the GRILL (PTTG) – Thursday Nights Start in May.
Beginning in May - Paddle to the Grill (PTTG) each Thursday evenings will return. Paddle for dinner/beverage and return with paddling lights. Off the water by 10pm. Paddler’s Choice Events – If you’ve always been interested to paddle a particular river or lake, just give the Touring Chairperson a call for spur of the moment “Pick Up” trips, contact Doug Johnstone at canoeone@tds.net or call 865-966-3391, or 865-804-5240 (cell) and he will assist in coordinating the event!

Oct 18 (Sat) Whites Creek Embayment on Watts Bar
We are planning to paddle the Whites Creek embayment of Watts Bar Lake on Saturday (October 18). We will meet at the McDonald’s Restaurant on HWY 27/61 between Rockwood and Harriman at 9:30am. We will put in at a boat ramp at the TVA White Creek Small Wild Area and stop for lunch at Half Moon Island. Hopefully, the fall leaf color will be spectacular. We expect to paddle a total of 8 to 10 miles.

Oct 25 - 29 Hammacks Beach State Park North Carolina Coast, Bear Island Overnighter We will leave on Saturday morning, camp on the mainland Saturday night Oct 25.
Early Sunday morning, we'll get out camping permits (first come first serve) for Bear Island. This will be a self contained (pack in boat camping gear and food) for four days, three nights. We'll paddle to the Island on Sunday, camp Sunday/Monday/Tuesday nights and return to the mainland Wed morning, then travel back to K-Town on Wed. There is water, toilet, outdoor shower facilities on the island. The paddling each day will be day trips (without gear), in the marsh areas or on the Atlantic beach side, depending on the weather/tides, etc.

There are 10 campsites separated by dunes (of which you do not see your camping neighbor, with your front porch being the Atlantic Ocean.

There is a daily camping fee per person. Travel arrangements are up to each person responsibility. We will attempt to caravan, if folks would like to, or we'll just meet Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Nov 8 - 12 Horn Island Gulf National Seashore Overnighter This is a totally self contained trip, 3 nights on the island, advance paddlers, paddle includes 10 mile open sea crossing from Bilixi Mississippi to Horn Island. It is best to call the tripmaster at least a day ahead. Trips have been known to get cancelled if it appears no one will show.
