THIS MONTH'S MEETING: For the most current meeting location, dates and times, please visit the Current News page. Because we do not have a place to hold a regular meeting at this time, locations frequently change. An announcement will be placed on that page in that situation. Meeting information on this page is kept as current as possible, however last minute changes may not be noted here.
This page is intended to provide basic information about our meetings. If you are not familiar with our meetings, but are interested in attending...please take a moment to review the information on this page.
On alternating months, the Board of Directors hold the business meeting. This meeting is open to all Committee Chairs and any members in-good-standing who wish to sit in. Check the current announcements on the home page to see which meeting format will be followed at the next meeting.
A member in good standing is defined as a person 18 years of age or older, current on membership dues, and must attend no less than 6 meetings or activities each year. Only those members who meet these criteria are eligible to vote in Board/Officer elections and attend the business meetings. If you're not sure if you're a member in good standing, contact us to find out.
We ask that all non-members wait and join us in our general membership program, which starts at 6:30 pm on alternating months. The membership program is open to all members and guests. We encourage everyone to come to the meetings and become involved with ETIL!
If you are a member of the ETIL, please consider attending our meetings. It is hard to learn and be an active and productive member if you're not present! In addition, attending our meetings regularly enable you to become aware and involved in many of our extra activities that go on throughout the year which may not be otherwise announced.
Our meeting format alternates each month, and each month will be one or the other of the following:
o 6:30 p.m. - Board Meeting (open to members in good standing)
o 6:30 p.m. - Membership Program (open to the public)During our membership program meetings, we offer various activities. For example, we have classes on making Powwow Regalia (various tribes) both Northern and Southern Styles. Beading classes are popular as well. At certain times, like at our December Christmas Party, we have a live drum and people come to dance, as well as to learn. Often, we have refreshments to share. Check the announcements on the Current News page to see what events are coming soon!
During our business meetings, there is a more formal structure to our meeting. We use these meetings to discuss ETIL business issues and plan for future events and activities.
Regularly scheduled meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. The exceptions are special events and the April meetings before the powwow. These important dates and times are always noted on the Current News page, but may not be listed here.
All meeting and socials start at 6:30 pm unless otherwise announced.
The East Tennessee Indian League for many years previously met in the Candy Factory at the World's Fair Site. Because of the fate of the building, it is no longer available for community use. For this reason, we no longer have a regular place to meet each month. For the most up-to-date meeting location, please check the Contacts page for an e-mail contact. Please always check the Current News page before a meeting, because occassionally there will be a last minute location change and it will only be announced on that page.
Getting free personalized directions and a map from your house to the meeting location is easy! Simply go here and enter your address. Then enter the meeting location address as your destination. Voila!
