ETIL POWWOW NEWS
THE ETIL KNOXVILLE POWWOW STATUS
We certainly appreciate the interest shown and inquiries made concerning our Powwow. Unfortunately, we are not currently able to hold the Knoxville powwow. We hope that this is not a permanent situation, but it is hard to tell at this point when or if we will be able to revive the ETIL Powwow. We have held many successful powwows over the years and have always appreciated the support of volunteers, vendors, dancers, staff, and attendees.
The main reason is funding. We simply do not have the funds to put on a powwow equal in quality to the powwows we have done in the past and we refuse to lower our standards and give you a less than wonderful event. We are always working on fundraising, but it does seem to be a long, slow process. With the economy slowing down, especially now that gas prices have sky-rocketed, people and companies just do not want to let go of their money for donations. We are always looking for grant opportunities, but that too, seems a long and slow process.
A second reason is a lack of volunteer and community support. The past several ETIL Powwows have been planned and executed by a very small group of volunteers. It's certainly not an easy task to have a good powwow when only a few members show up to lend a hand. We simply can not continue to give the best powwow in the manner and tradition we are known for without the support of our members, friends, and the community.
When we are able to sponsor our next powwow, it will be posted to this site and also on powwows.com. Thank you for your interest understanding.
