Attendance
Class Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes. Anyone whose attendance is determined to be unsatisfactory will be dismissed. Classes meet from 8:00-4:00 five days a week with appropriate breaks in the day. Each student is expected to begin his respective class on time. Tardiness will not be tolerated except in emergencies. All necessary tardiness or absence must be arranged or excused with the Dean of Academics and respective instructors. The Student Handbook explains the rules and penalties for absenteeism and tardiness.
Certain periods during the day may be designated as study or "lab" time. Students are expected to use such periods as instructed.
Chapel Attendance: Daily chapel attendance is required.
Church Attendance: Every student is under the oversight of the Karns elders and is expected to attend all regular services of the Karns church. This would normally include Lord's day, morning and evening, Bible classes, Vacation Bible School, and gospel meetings. Exceptions will be made for those who live closer to other congregations and for those who work with other congregations. The administration must approve exceptions.
Lectureship Attendance: The annual ETSPM lectureship is held the first Sunday-Wednesday of each March and every student is required to attend.
Seminar Attendance: Qualified men of the brotherhood are invited occasionally to speak at special seminars. These are required sessions for ETSPM students.
Leave of Absence: A leave of absence can be granted to students for conditions beyond their control, such as road hazards, weather conditions, sickness, death in the immediate family, necessary official business, representing the school, and military service. The leave of absence must be approved by the Director and Dean of Academics.
Social Activities: Several social events are scheduled for students and their families. These are wholesome activities which provide for fellowship, camaraderie, and development of social skills. All students (and their families, when applicable) are expected to participate.
Satisfactory Work: All work must be completed. The Student Handbook explains rules regarding make-up work and the penalties for failure to complete work on time.
Married Students: Married students should understand the importance of having the support and encouragement of the wife and family. It is expected that a student's wife be dedicated to her husband's plans. Wives should read this catalog and give careful consideration to the section for wives on the application blank. A single student who decides to marry cannot continue in school without having his wife complete the application sections that apply and be accepted by the school.
On Thursday nights during regular school terms, there is a special class for wives. Except in special circumstances (approved by the administration), all wives are required to participate in these classes. These classes have requirements similar to those in the regular curriculum.
