Code Of Ethics
East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions students must exemplify the excellence of Christian character. Each student is responsible to abide by the policies and regulations set forth in the catalog or in the student handbook.
Disciplinary matters are handled by the Dean of Students. A record of any disciplinary action will be maintained in the student's file. Serious and persistent violation of regulations and policies may result in probation, suspension, or expulsion.
The East Tennessee School of Preaching reserves the right to deny readmission to a student at the beginning of any quarter or to dismiss him at anytime if, in the judgment of the staff, it is thought his influence is detrimental to the school.
General Rules
1. All students are expected to assume proper responsibility as citizens. Anyone convicted of any law violation will be subject to discipline by the school.
2. Everyone is expected to deal honestly and uprightly with fellow students both in and out of the classroom; likewise, with those churches and individuals who give financial support.
3. Words or acts unbecoming to Christians will not be tolerated. At all times, the student must conduct himself with proper decorum and display proper attitudes in all matters pertaining to his school work.
4. Neither students nor anyone in their household are permitted to use alcohol, illicit drugs, or tobacco in any form. Anyone found doing so will be dismissed.
5. Though a specific offense may not have been committed, at any time a student's attitude and demeanor are not in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the school, he may be asked to withdraw. This will not be subject to review by any other person or group outside the East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions and the overseers of the Karns Church of Christ.
Dress and Cleanliness
Preachers and teachers of God's word are expected to demonstrate leadership at all times. One's appearance suggests his attitude and character. Students seem to be motivated by the appearance of themselves and others. At any time the administration and faculty feel that a student's appearance is not in good taste, they will discuss the matter with him.
1. Acceptable dress for male students while attending classes includes: dress pants and shirts, sport shirts and slacks, suits and sweaters (ties are optional unless a student is fulfilling a chapel assignment). Ladies' dress for class includes: dresses, dress and sport shirts, skirts, pantsuits and sweaters. The following items are not acceptable for attending classes: Athletic shoes, sandals, jeans, sweatshirts, and tee-shirts. Clothing is to be clean and unwrinkled. Students are required to present a neat and clean personal appearance. A hair style that is effeminate or unkempt is not acceptable.
2. Immodest clothing will not be permitted.
3. The student's family is also expected to abide by standards of modesty and decency in appearance.
Additional Rules
The Student Handbook will explain other rules which are needed for the effective operation of the school. All students are expected to abide by the requirements of the handbook.
