Using the Compass of a Christ-centered Life
God expects for our lives to have meaning
and purpose. Life, however, can have neither meaning nor purpose unless it has
direction. Direction cannot bring meaning or purpose unless Jesus is the source
of direction. Every believer, therefore, must have a Christ-centered compass.
THE PURPOSEFUL
JOURNEY (Heb. 12:1-2)
1. During
a depression in Ireland, men otherwise happy to have work became very
disconsolate when they discovered they were merely part of a government
make-work project.
2. People’s
lives are small when their goals are small.
3. Is
our ambition for life as big as the one God has in mind (Rom. 8:29)?
4. Are
we involved in a purposeful journey?
WHAT OUR GOALS REVEAL
(Matt. 6:24; I Kg 18:21; Josh. 24:15; Acts 2:40)
1. The
things we aim for or fail to aim for reveal much about us.
2. The
business world recognizes that there is no survival in the marketplace without
a plan (Lk. 16:8).
3. God
has set the goal (Matt. 6:10b).
4. How
do we respond (Matt. 6:33)?
5. God
requires a quest for excellence (Col. 3:17; 23).
THE POWER OF
FOLLOWING THE CHRIST-CENTERED COMPASS (II Cor. 3:18; Jas. 1:21-25; Eph. 3:20;
II Tim. 1:7)
1. The
Old Testament example of Moses’ encounter with Pharaoh shows where true power
is found (Ex. 4-14).
2. Jesus
directs us toward great achievements, will small thinking derail us?
3. Focus
is a key (Matt. 6:22-23).
4. Hard work
is a key (II Tim. 2:3-7).
5. Having
priorities
is a key (Phil. 1:9-10).
6. Simplifying
is a key (Jn. 4:34).
7. In
all things we must look to God (Prov. 2:3-6).
8. In
all things Jesus is our example (Lk. 2:41-49).
With Jesus we are heading in the only
direction that matters. With the Christ we achieve heights of accomplishment we
are unable to attain alone. God has not called us to mediocrity, He has chosen
us for greatness!
