THE GOSPEL FOR CHRISTIANS

Galatians 2:11-14

When we think of the Gospel we most often associate it with the story of Jesus that a sinner must hear to be saved (I Cor. 15:1-4). There is, however, a very important way that the Gospel continues to have influence in the life of a Christian. Let us examine the ongoing role of the Gospel for those who have found salvation in the Christ.

Scriptures To Consider:

1.   Galatians 2:11-14; cf. 2:5.

2.    Colossians 1:5.

3.   Galatians 1:6-7.

4.   II Corinthians 11:4.

Conclusions We Can Draw:

1.   The “Good News” about Jesus also includes instruction in how Christians are to live (i.e. Matt. 28:20; John 13:34-35; I Cor. 2:16).

2.   The importance of accepting the real Jesus, the real Spirit of Christ, and the real Gospel are all different ways of expressing the reality that Christians are to be influenced in truth by God.

3.   Distorted views of Jesus, the Spirit of Christ and the Gospel are all very serious threats to the cause of Christ.

4.    For this study (Gal. 2:11-14), our interpersonal relationships and our conduct toward one another are very much matters that involve the Gospel.

Applications For Christians:

1.   We are to be forgiving (Lk. 17:3-5)

2.   We are to be loving (Jn. 13:34-35).

3.   We are to be patient and gentle (II Tim. 2:24-26).

4.   We are to be tolerant and understanding in matters of opinion (Rom. 14:1-1-23).

5.   We are to be encouraging (I Thess. 5:11).

6.   We are to be truthful and uncompromising when these things are neglected and abused (Gal 2:11).

The Gospel is for Christians. In Galatians 2:11-14 Paul is pointed in associating the Gospel with how we Christians get along with each other. We might as well abandon baptism as to neglect the place of the Gospel in our interpersonal relationships.
