An important meeting was held this morning at the Nine Counties
One Vision office to discuss the development of a regional
"growing out station" for trees. The discussion is the
result of an idea presented by Maria Compere at a regular meeting
of the 9C1V Beautification Task Force. A growing out
station is a type of plant nursery where seedlings and rescued plants
are potted or temporarily planted until they are needed or are large
enough to plant. The specific discussion for this site would focus
on rescued or overstocks of native plants, rescued plants and trees and
shrubs used in riparian zone restoration efforts. Attending the
meeting were Tom Salter of KKB, Dave Vandergriff of Knox
County Extension, David Watson of the East Tennessee
Community Design Center, Sam Adams of Cortese Tree
Specialists, UT Professor Sam Rogers, Mark Campen of Izaak
Walton League and Misty Goins of 9C1V. Additional
meetings will be held to work on specifics of site development, funding
and a management plan. Other partners are needed. If you are
interested in this project send an email to Tom
Salter at KKB.

Today was a big day for our landlord The Arts and Cultural
Alliance. It was the premier open house for the Emporium
Arts Center. These two shots are of the Rodman Townsend Sr.
gallery. One just before the event and one during. I
estimated at least 500 people visited. The open house was followed
up by a poetry slam. If you are downtown you need to stop in and
see this space - it is very nice. We had a lot of friends drop
into our space including: Larissa
Jurand-Salter, Ryan Justice, Joyce Hausman, Cassandra McGee, Rodney
Rockett, Gary Loe, John Gustin, Bob and Barbara Santore, Mark Campen,
Cortney Piper, Grant Rosenberg, John Evans, Mary Lou Horner, Keith
Richardson, Sam Maynard, Susan Becker, Mike Schoenberger, Tim Wheeler,
Dan McGehee, Ginny Weatherstone, Anne Marie Tugwell and a bunch of
other people who just dropped in.

KKB met with Scott Etheridge of Sullivan Street Market
to discuss litter and trash disposal concerns of Old City
merchants. Sullivan Street Market sells antiques and is right next
to Barley's. It's real easy to find. KKB's Music
History Mural, completed in 2001 is on the building.

Our new intern Melissa Knowles
started today. Her primary duties will be to coordinate Youth
Advisory Board activities. Pictured below is Melissa with our
other intern Matt Christopher in Tom's office. The other
views show Melissa and Cortney Piper at their desks and a view of
a common work area. These are really nice offices and KKB
appreciates all the effort by the project developers, the City of
Knoxville and the Arts and Cultural Alliance for making nice
space for us and our neighbors.
