The Knox County Solid Waste board held its February meeting at
the Knox County Greenwaste Facility in Solway. They
discussed odor control measures and heard from citizens about their
experience living near the facility. The general consensus was that odor
control measures in place now have greatly improved the situation and
some new techniques should bring additional help.

By the time we got back from the conference this was all that was
left of the McClung Warehouse Fire. If you did not see the
fire or come to our neighborhood soon after you can't appreciate the
falling embers threat to the other buildings. If you look at the
shot on the new bridge you will see a lot of chunks of charred wood from
the fire. The heat of the fire was so intense that this material
was carried high into the air, still on fire, and rained down on all the
buildings, cars, weeds, etc. There were lots of small secondary
fires and KFD and the residents did a great job keeping the whole
block from going up in smoke and flames.
