This exhibit offers a lighthearted look at some of the strange, bizarre and amazing minerals in the Weinman's collection. With lots of fun hands-on experiments, this exhibit is a perfect summer activity for the whole family.
Under Your Feet: Mining in Bartow County

For nearly two hundred years miners have toiled to recover the mineral resources of Bartow County. This exhibit tells the story of mining in our region through geology, mining technology and first hand accounts from the miners themselves. From gold and iron mining in the 1800's to modern day barite and ochre mining, come learn about these unique treasures literally under our feet.

Historic Bartow County Mine Tour

Join us as we explore Bartow County's diverse mining history and geology. A charter bus will provide transportation as we tour area barite, ochre, and bauxite mines. Learn about limestone and granite quarries and the dynamic geology that make them unique. This popular event has always been a sellout - Reservations accepted in the fall.
