About KTRID
The Knoxville Tennessee Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (KTRID) is a not-for-profit organization for deaf and hearing consumers, interpreters, students, and supporters in the Knoxville area. KTRID is an affiliate of the state organization, the Tennessee Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and the national organization, the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Objectives
  • To provide for the effective use of interpreters for the mutual benefit of deaf and hearing individuals,
  • To prepare, maintain, and distribute a registry of RID certified interpreters for the deaf in the Knoxville area,
  • To recruit and encourage potential interpreters for the deaf,
  • To encourage professionalism among interpreters,
  • To conduct workshops for the purpose of upgrading skills of the membership,
  • To work in close cooperation with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, the Tennessee Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, and local organizations operating to advance interpreting and the general welfare of the deaf,
  • To promote public awareness of the nature of interpreting services.
Monthly Meetings
KTRID meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month unless otherwise noted. Meetings are for any interested individuals, not just members of KTRID. They are held at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Knoxville Center of the Deaf at 3731 Martin Mill Pike in Knoxville. Sign language interpreters are provided. Anyone planning to attend a KTRID meeting needing accommodation other than sign language interpreters, please contact Marie Griffin two weeks prior to the meeting.
