will be hosting a free
Knoxville Steel Mill Plant tour:
Gardau ameristeel (headquartered in Toronto, with executive offices in Tampa, Florida)
is the fourth largest overall steel company and the second largest minimill steel producer
in North America. The compant has the capacity to manufacture over 12 million tons of mill
finished steel products annually. Through an integrated network of minimills, steel scrap recycling
facilities anddownstream operations, the company serves customers throughout North America.
Gardau Ameristeel operates 19 electric steel mills in North America (including one 60% owned minimill),
19 scrap recycling facilities, and 61 downstream operations, including railroad track
spike operations in Lancaster, SC, and Paragould, AR. a concrete products facility in North
Jackson, OH, and a grinding ball plant in Duluth, MN.
Gardau Ameristeel's products are used in a variety of industries including construction, automotive,
mining, and cellular and electrical transmission. They are found in bridges, highways, stadiums,
and commercial and apartment buildings. Gardau Ameristeel is one of the largest producers of
reinforcing steel in the United states. The company is also a major supplier of merchant bars, wire rod,
nails, welded mesh wire, railroad spikes, structural shapes, and pilings. The Knoxville Mill
(formerly the Knoxville Iron and steel Service Comapny) was acquired in 1987, and is an electric
steel minimill producing steel rebar.
