The Partnership for Neighborhood Improvement (PNI) has a fifteen-year history of service to the Knoxville, Tennessee community. It is governed by a fourteen-member board balanced between institutional and residential participants, allowing input from both the professional and grassroots levels. Since its inception, PNI has received strong support from the city's business, financial, governmental, and non-profit sectors. These working relationships mesh with PNI's responsive internal structure in order to successfully implement a wide range of beneficial projects.

Currently, PNI is contracted by the City of Knoxville to invest federal HUD funding into the Knoxville Empowerment Zone (KEZ), and the Partnership focuses the brunt of its efforts upon that endeavor.
