Care Teams

Congregational Care Teams provide a way for our congregation to respond to the day-to-day real life needs of individuals and families in our church family. Care Teams are groups of volunteers working together to offer practical support to those in need. These needs may result from a developmental or physical disability, a prolonged physical or mental illness, limitations brought on by the aging process, or other life-challenging situations. They may also be temporary in nature, due to an accident or episodic illness.

The teams are flexible and look for ways to "share the care" among the team members so that it is not a burden to any one person. All participants give what they can and in ways that they are comfortable with. There are no time requirements. A short training session is designed to help all volunteers understand the guidelines (including boundaries and limits). The plan is for volunteers to receive their assignments by phone or e-mail, complete their tasks, and then report back to the care team coordinator by phone or e-mail. Accordingly, meetings should be kept to a minimum.

Our hands-on help includes the following: minor auto repair, cleaning house, cooking, running errands, grocery shopping, phone visitation, minor house repairs, gardening, friendly visits, organizing, transportation, writing notes, yard work, repair referrals. (The Care Teams cooperate with, but do not interefere with, the Stephen Ministry, Neighborhood Group services, and the Caring Cooks program.) We have found that our largest number of requests has been for transportation.

If you are interested in participating in the Care Teams, please pick up a form from the church office, fill it out, and return it to the office.
